Ankave New Testament (AAKWBT)

Overview

The New Testament in the Ankave language of Papua New Guinea, published in 1990 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. Ankave (also written Angave) belongs to the Angan language family, a branch of Trans-New Guinea, and is spoken by approximately 2,000 people in Kerema District, Gulf Province. [1] A Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) missionary arrived among the Ankave in 1980 and remained for twelve years until approximately 1992, establishing a local-language school alongside the translation effort. [2] Bible portions in Ankave were published between 1986 and 1992, with the New Testament completed in 1990. [1] The Ankave community has shown mixed engagement with Christianity, with approximately 40% identifying as Christian and 60% following ethnic religions. [1] The vernacular title of the New Testament is Xwɨyí̵á Gorɨxoyá Sɨŋí̵pɨrɨnɨ.
