Achuar-shiwiar Bible

Achuar-shiwiar Bible (ACUTBL)

Overview

This translation contains the New Testament and portions of the Old Testament in Achuar-Shiwiar, a Jivaroan language spoken by the Achuar people of the Peru-Ecuador border region. The Achuar inhabit the lowland tropical forests between the Morona and Tigre rivers in Peru’s Loreto region and in the Pastaza and Morona-Santiago provinces of Ecuador. [1] The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators and first copyrighted in 2008, with a revised 4th edition released in 2019 under a Creative Commons license. [2] SIL linguist Gerhard Fast contributed foundational language documentation for Achuar-Shiwiar, including a grammar (1981) and a bilingual dictionary (1996), which supported literacy and translation efforts among the Achuar. [3] Bible portions in Achuar-Shiwiar were first published between 1973 and 1988, preceding the complete New Testament. [1]
