Aghul Portions (AGXIBT)
Overview
The Aghul Portions contain the Gospel of Luke in the Aghul language (ISO 639-3: agx), a Northeast Caucasian (Lezgic) language spoken by approximately 29,300 people in the Republic of Dagestan in southern Russia [1][2]. The Gospel of Luke was published in 2005 by the Institute for Bible Translation (IBT), Moscow, and was followed by a supplementary publication on the Parables of Luke in 2007, which included illustrations [1]. The translation was carried out using an oral translation methodology, in which the entire process from initial drafting to final checking and approval is conducted orally [1]. IBT has continued work in Aghul, with the books of Ruth and Jonah scheduled for publication in 2026 as multilingual editions with parallel Russian and English texts [1].
