Altai New Testament 2017 (ALTIBT)
Overview
The 2017 Southern Altai New Testament is a revised bilingual Altai-Russian edition produced by the Institute for Bible Translation (IBT), founded in Stockholm in 1973. [1] The first edition was published in 2003 and was warmly received by the Altai community for “preserving many words that were fading from use,” but readers later reported comprehension difficulties with complex syntax. [1] The 2017 revision reformulated these passages for greater naturalness and replaced archaic terms, with consultation from Christians of various denominations, professional linguists, and writers. [2] It includes a parallel Russian Synodal Version text, a glossary of biblical concepts, and explanatory footnotes. Southern Altai is a Turkic language spoken by approximately 57,400 people in the Altai Republic of central Russia.
