Ambai New Testament (AMKWBT)

Overview

The Ambai New Testament, titled Sempaisi Ne Kaiwo Mirarebanai, was published in 2010 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. in partnership with Yayasan Sumber Sejahtera (YSS), Jakarta. [1] The Ambai language is an Austronesian language of the Yapen language group, spoken by approximately 10,000 people on the Ambai Islands and the southern part of Yapen Island in Cenderawasih Bay, Papua Province, Indonesia. [2] The Ambai people are an ethnic subgroup of the Yapen peoples who inhabit the eastern coast of Yapen Island in Yapen Islands Regency. [3] Three dialects are recorded: Randawaya, Ambai (Wadapi-Laut), and Manawi. [2] Linguistic documentation of the language was produced in cooperation with Cenderawasih University and the Summer Institute of Linguistics, including working notes on language and culture compiled by David S. Price, Tamara Price, Peter J. Silzer, and Sheryl Silzer. [4]
