Ama New Testament (AMMWBT)
Overview
The New Testament in the Ama language of Papua New Guinea, also known as the Sawiyanu language, first published in 1990 with a revised edition in 2009 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] The vernacular title is Kotoni Imo Itouniyaimo (“God’s Good Talk”), and the 1990 print edition was issued by Bible League International (formerly known as the Bible League), based in South Holland, Illinois. [2] Ama (ISO 639-3: amm) is a Left May (Arai) language of East Sepik Province spoken by approximately 480 people, making it one of the smaller language communities to receive a complete New Testament translation through Wycliffe’s Papua New Guinea program. [1] The translation work was carried out by SIL linguists Sören and Britten Årsjö, who also produced linguistic analyses of Ama discourse structure during the late 1970s. [3] The 2009 copyright update reflects a textual revision of the original translation made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivatives license. [1]
