Overview
The Arapesh New Testament, titled “Iruhin Ananin Baraen,” is the New Testament in Bumbita Arapesh, a language of the Torricelli family spoken in the East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea. [1] The Bumbita Arapesh people live in approximately 13 villages within the Bumbita-Muhian Rural Local Level Government area in the Maprik District of the Torricelli mountains. [2] The language has several dialects including Bonahoi, Urita, Timingir, and Weril. [2] The translation was completed and copyrighted in 2003 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [3] Bumbita Arapesh is reported to be spoken mainly by older adults, making this translation an important resource for language preservation as well as Scripture access. [2]
