The New Testament in Cishingini (ASGWBT)
Overview
The New Testament in Cishingini (titled Uzuwakpani u Savu n Cishingini; n aba’in a na a Zagbai a Uzukpani u Kuku) was published in 2012 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, making it the first scripture translation into this language. [1] Cishingini is one of three closely related Kambari dialects — alongside Tsishingini and Tsikimba — spoken in a remote region sometimes called “the hidden triangle” of Niger and Kebbi States, and all three received New Testament translations from Wycliffe within a few years of one another. [2] Early linguistic documentation of the Western Kambari languages, including Cishingini, was carried out by Wycliffe linguist Clark Regnier in the late 1980s, whose fieldwork produced foundational language data for the translation effort.
