Bislama Bible Revised Version (BISBSP)
Overview
The Bislama Bible Revised Version (2012) is a revision of the Bislama Bible first published by the Bible Society of the South Pacific. [1] Bislama is an English-based creole that serves as the national language of Vanuatu, spoken as a lingua franca by approximately 200,000 people across the archipelago. [2] Translation work on the Bislama Bible began in the late 1960s, with draft versions of the four Gospels completed in 1968. [3] The full Bible (“Baebol Long Bislama”) was dedicated in June 1998 at celebrations in Santo and Port Vila, where the translators received the Medal of National Merit. [3] Key figures in the translation project included John Harris, Dorothy and Laurie Dewar, Euan Fry, and Solomone Dum of the Bible Society of the South Pacific. [3] The 2012 revised edition includes color maps and study aids. [4]
