New Testament in Eastern Tawbuid (BNJOMF)

Overview

The New Testament in Eastern Tawbuid (1996) is the first Scripture translation into the Eastern Tawbuid language, published by OMF Literature Inc. in Manila. ^[1] The Tawbuid are one of six tribes that make up the Mangyan indigenous peoples of Mindoro Island in the Philippines, inhabiting the isolated central highlands of the island. ^[2] OMF (Overseas Missionary Fellowship) missionaries were among the first to begin sharing the gospel with the Mangyan tribes of Mindoro in the 1950s, and by the 1970s New Testament translation work had begun in several Mangyan languages including Eastern Tawbuid. ^[3] Christian linguists and translators worked in the mountainous interior of Mindoro to produce the translation, collaborating with Tawbuid speakers to render the text in their language. ^[4]
