Bine New Testament (BONPNG)

Overview

The New Testament in the Bine language of Papua New Guinea, titled Ireclota Mene, published in 1993 by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea. This was the first complete New Testament in Bine, though Bible portions in the language had been produced as early as 1934. ^[1] The Bine people, also known as Oriomo, live in the Daru district of Western Province, south of the Fly River. ^[1] The community is predominantly Christian, with approximately 95% adherence. ^[1]

Language and People

Bine (ISO 639-3: bon), also known as Pine, Kunini, Masingara, or Oriomo, is a Papuan language spoken by approximately 3,200 people in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea. ^[1] Speakers refer to the language as either bine mene (Bine language) or kewe mene (village language). ^[2] The language has two main dialects — Eastern and Western — which differ phonologically and are further divided into regional varieties including Boze-Giringarede, Irupi-Drageli, Kunini, Masingle, Sebe, Sogal, and Tati. ^[2] Papua New Guinea, Map 14.
