The Bible in Bandial (BQJWBT)

Overview

The Bible in Bandial (Firim fafu fal Aláemit) was completed in 2015 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc., representing the culmination of a translation project begun in 2004 for the Bandial people of the Casamance region of Senegal. ^[1] Bandial (also called Banjaal or Eegima) is a Jola Atlantic-Congo language spoken by approximately 15,700–18,000 people in the lower Casamance, and is also known in some sources as Jóola Banjal. ^[3] The translation was carried out by Wycliffe France missionaries, including Wolfgang Berndt, working with Bandial community members. ^[1] Bible portions were available by 2006, and the full New Testament with Old Testament portions was published in 2015. ^[3] Faith Comes By Hearing subsequently partnered with Wycliffe to produce audio Scripture recordings in the Bandial language, making the text accessible to community members who are more comfortable with oral formats. ^[1]
