Cavineña New Testament (CAVWBT)
Overview
New Testament in Cavineña (BL:cav:Cavineña), titled Yusuja Quisarati, published in 2012 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. Cavineña belongs to the Tacanan language family — a group of five Amazonian languages spoken in northern Bolivia and adjacent Peru — and is spoken by approximately 600–1,200 people in communities near the Beni River on the Amazonian plains of northern Bolivia. [1][2] The language is considered endangered, with intergenerational transmission declining in communities closer to regional economic centers. SIL linguists Elizabeth L. Camp and Millicent R. Liccardi carried out extensive linguistic research in Cavineña from the 1970s through the 1980s, producing grammar descriptions, phonological analyses, and educational materials that informed the translation project. [3] The 2012 Wycliffe edition constitutes a revision of an earlier 1985 Bible League International publication and is the first complete New Testament in Cavineña. [4]
