Overview

The New Testament in the Bunong language (Central Mnong), published in 2016 by the Bible Society of Cambodia in collaboration with Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] This edition uses the Latin script (Roman alphabet), which is read primarily by older Bunong speakers, as a companion to the Khmer-script edition (CMOBSCK) intended for younger readers who learned to read using the officially recognized Khmer script adopted since 2003. [1] [2] Translation of Scripture into the Bunong language was first attempted in Vietnam in the 1960s, but the work was disrupted by the Vietnam War and the manuscripts were lost. [1] Approximately 50 years later, a new translation effort was undertaken by a partnership of the Bible Society in Cambodia, Wycliffe Bible Translators, and SIL International, resulting in the dual-script New Testament released in May 2016 — the first complete New Testament for the Bunong people. [1] [3] Old Testament translation began in 2018 under the coordination of the local Bunong church and Wycliffe Australia. [3]
