Zokam Standard Version (CTDBIV)
Overview
The Zokam Standard Version is a revised New Testament in the Tedim Chin language, published by Bibles International in 2014. The Tedim Chin people, also known as Zomi, originated in the Chin State of Myanmar and number approximately 411,000 worldwide, with about 256,000 in Myanmar and 155,000 in India. [1] Bibles International adopted the Tedim Chin language project in 1987, and the first New Testament was completed in 2000. That edition required a major revision, which BI senior consultant Ross Hodsdon led, working closely with national translators until the Zokam Standard Edition was completed in 2015. [1] The name “Zokam” reflects the people’s self-designation as Zomi. A separate Old Testament translation team began work under the consultancy of Dr. Hung Kim, with Psalms and Proverbs published in 2021. [1] Early missionary work among the Tedim Chin began with Baptist Mid-Missions missionary Jim Garlow, and BI founder Paul Versluis recognized the need for Scriptures in the language. [1]
