Usila Chinantec New Testament (CUCTBL)
Overview
The Usila Chinantec New Testament was translated by Leonard E. Skinner and Marlene B. Skinner, who worked with the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and Wycliffe Bible Translators. The Skinners arrived in the remote village of San Felipe Usila, Oaxaca, Mexico in 1958, where together with local Chinantec co-translators they developed an alphabet and writing system for the highly tonal Usila Chinantec language. [1] The completed New Testament was published in 1983 by Liga Biblica Mundial del Hogar (World Home Bible League). In addition to the New Testament, the Skinners produced literacy materials, folk tales, an Old Testament summary, and a bilingual Chinantec-Spanish dictionary. [1] [2]
