Digo Bible (Chidigo) (DIGWBT)
Overview
The Digo Bible (Chidigo) is a full Bible translation in the Digo language, spoken by the Digo people of coastal Kenya and Tanzania. Bible Translation & Literacy (BTL), a Kenyan organization established in 1981, began translation work with the Digo community in 1987. [1] The New Testament was completed and launched in December 2007 after two decades of effort. [1] The Old Testament followed, with the complete Bible published in November 2020 and dedicated in May 2021. [2] The Digo are the second largest of the nine Mijikenda peoples of the Kenyan and Tanzanian coast, numbering approximately 360,000 and living in communities stretching from Mombasa south to Tanga, Tanzania. [1] Chidigo is a Bantu language closely related to Swahili and to the other Mijikenda languages. [1]
