C’Lela New Testament (DRIWBT)
Overview
The C’Lela New Testament was published in 2019 by Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT). [1] C’Lela (also known as Lela or Cilela) is a Western Kainji language spoken by the Lelna people, primarily in Kebbi State and Niger State of northwestern Nigeria. [2] The Lelna are also known as the Dakarkari in Hausa, and the language is classified as vigorous (EGIDS level 6a), used by all generations for daily communication. [2] [3] NBTT, which grew out of a 1962 cooperative agreement between the University of Nigeria and SIL International, is currently involved in Bible translation work across over 100 Nigerian languages.
