Markweeta 2008 Edition

Markweeta 2008 Edition (ENBBTL)

Overview

The Markweeta 2008 Edition is the New Testament in the Marakwet language, translated by Bible Translation and Literacy (BTL) in partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators. BTL began the Endo-Marakwet language project in 1983, encompassing language development, translation, and literacy work. [1] The project was interrupted by ethnic clashes and resumed in the mid-2000s, with the New Testament completed and launched in February 2009. [1] The Marakwet (also called Markweeta) are a subgroup of the Kalenjin people, numbering approximately 120,000 speakers, who live in the Kerio Valley and Elgeyo-Marakwet County in western Kenya. [1] Work on the Old Testament commenced in 2012, and the complete Marakwet Bible is expected to be dedicated in 2026. [1]
