Nobnob New Testament (GAWWBT)
Overview
The Nobnob New Testament, titled “KAYAKNU NAI Tituanak Bau” in the vernacular, is the New Testament in the Nobonob language, a member of the Madang branch of the Trans-New Guinea language family spoken by approximately 2,400 to 5,000 people in Madang District, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea [1][2]. The Nobonob language program began as a partnership with SIL PNG, and the New Testament was completed and published by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1990 [2][3]. Nobonob speakers are found in the villages of Nagada, Betip, Amron, Haven, Balepa, Belan, and Butelkud on the north coast of mainland Papua New Guinea [1]. The Nobonob language program became a Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association (PNGBTA) program in 1989, and Old Testament translation continued under the leadership of lead translator Itbam Hiuk [2]. On June 19, 2025, the complete Nobonob Bible was dedicated at Balepa Village, making it the first full Bible completed under PNGBTA’s leadership out of 74 language translation projects [2].
