Gulei New Testament (GVLABT)
Overview
The Gulei New Testament (Nouveau Testament en Gulay 2004) is the first New Testament translation in the Gulay language, published in 2004 by the Alliance Biblique du Tchad (Bible Society of Chad). [1] The translation made the Scriptures available for the first time in the heart language of the Gulay people of southwestern Chad. Prior to its publication, Gulay-speaking Christians relied on Bible translations in French or the regional trade language Ngambay. [2] The title “Gulei” reflects one of several alternate spellings of the language name, which also appears as Gulay, Goulaye, and Guley. [3]
Language and People
Gulay (ISO 639-3: gvl), also known as Gulei, Pen, or Peni, is spoken by approximately 163,000 people in southwestern Chad. [3] The language belongs to the Bua group of the Adamawa language family within Niger-Congo. [Glottolog: gula1268]
