Hehe New Testament (HEHBST)

Overview

The Hehe New Testament, titled Lufingano Lupya in the Kihehe language, is the first Bible translation for the Hehe people of Tanzania. The translation project was initiated by the Bible Society of Tanzania in January 2001, and the completed New Testament was officially published and launched in September 2010. [1] The Hehe (or Wahehe) are a Bantu ethnic group living in the Iringa Region of south-central Tanzania, south of the Great Ruaha River. [2] Translation of the Old Testament into Kihehe is ongoing, with several books already translated and undergoing review by translation consultants. [1] This edition, published by the Bible Society of Tanzania in 2004 (with digital publication following later), represents a significant milestone in making the Scriptures available to over one million Kihehe speakers.
