Huastec Aquiche Veracruz New Testament (HUSLLB)
Overview
The Huastec Aquiche Veracruz New Testament, titled Nin tének káwintal an okˀóxláb, is a translation of the New Testament into the Veracruz dialect of Huastec (Teenek), published in 2005 by La Liga Biblica (Bible League) with text copyrighted by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] Huastec, known to its speakers as Teenek, is notable as the only Mayan language spoken outside the main Mayan geographic area; it is geographically separated from other Mayan languages by hundreds of kilometers, spoken in the rural areas of northern Veracruz and San Luis Potosi states in Mexico. [2] The 2005 Mexican population census recorded approximately 200,000 Huastec speakers, with roughly 80,000 in Veracruz and 120,000 in San Luis Potosi. [2] The translation work was carried out by SIL International linguists working with Teenek-speaking communities in the Veracruz region. [3]
