Imbo Ungu New Testament

Imbo Ungu New Testament (IMOTBL)

Overview

The Imbo Ungu New Testament, titled Goteni Lino Kinye Opa Peamili Nimu Ungu Tukumemu, is a 1997 translation of the New Testament into the Imbongu language of Papua New Guinea, copyrighted by The Bible League. [1] Imbongu (also known as Imbo Ungu or Ibo Ugu) is a dialect of the Kaugel (Gawigl) language, a Trans-New Guinea language spoken in the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. [2] The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators working with local Imbongu-speaking communities. [1] The language has approximately 30,000 speakers and is written in the Latin script. The Imbongu dialect is one of two main varieties of Kaugel, the other being the Gawil (Umbo Ungu/Kakoli) dialect, which received its own separate New Testament translation. [2]
