Bu New Testament (JIDDOR)

Overview

The Bu New Testament is a 2020 translation of the New Testament into Bu (also known as Bu-Ninkada, Ibut, Abu, or Jida), a Plateau language of central Nigeria. [1] Bu is classified within the Western Plateau branch of the Benue-Congo family and is spoken in the villages of Nakere, Rago, Maiganga, and Abu in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. [1] [2] The language has two ethnically distinct dialect groups, Bu and Ninkada, with a combined speaker population of roughly 4,000 to 6,000 people. [1] This translation was produced through the Door43 World Missions Community and represents a significant effort to provide Scripture to a small language community.
