Jorai Bible (JRAWBT)
Overview
The Jorai Bible (formally titled Hơdrôm Hră Rơgoh Hiam Hơnơ̆ng Đăr 2014, or Jorai Bible Standard Version) is a 2014 full Bible translation into Jarai, an Austronesian language of the Chamic subgroup spoken primarily in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and northeastern Cambodia. [1] [2] The translation was produced by the Jorai Bible Association, a nonprofit organization serving the Jarai diaspora community, which accounts for the United States country designation in this edition’s metadata. [1] The JBSV was translated directly from the original biblical languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) and is described as the first complete Bible in the Jarai language. [1] The Jarai people number approximately 450,000 speakers, of whom over 120,000 are estimated to be Christians. [1] Earlier New Testament translation work in Jarai had been undertaken by missionaries in Vietnam, with the original Jarai New Testament completed by Charlie Long in 1974. [2] The Jorai Bible Association maintains connections with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) and partner churches. [1]
