Bible Portions in Khanty (KCAIBT)

Overview

Bible Portions in Khanty were published by the Institute for Bible Translation (IBT) in 2012. The Khanty are a Uralic-speaking indigenous people of Western Siberia, living primarily along the Ob River in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. The Khanty language has three major dialect groups (Kazym, Shuryshkar, and middle-Ob), and IBT’s translation project has focused on the Kazym dialect, which is used in newspapers, broadcasting, and literary works. ^[1] Published portions include the Gospels of Luke and Mark, the book of Acts, Genesis, and Jonah. ^[1] The Khanty language is classified as endangered, with fewer than 10,000 speakers remaining.
