Keapara Kalo New Testament (KHZPNG)

Overview

The New Testament in the Kalo dialect of the Keapara language of Papua New Guinea, titled “Vekapawai Valiguna.” The translation was completed in 2005 by Wycliffe Bible Translators and copyrighted by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea. [1][2] The Kalo dialect is one of several dialectal varieties within the Keapara language, which is an Oceanic language that has been strongly influenced by neighboring Papuan languages. [3] The translation is available in multiple formats including print-on-demand through the Digital Bible Society and as a mobile app. [1]

Language and People

Keapara (ISO 639-3: khz) is an Oceanic (Austronesian) language spoken by approximately 19,400 people in Papua New Guinea. [3] The language includes several dialectal varieties: Aroma, Babaka, Kamali, Kalo, Keapara (Kerepunu), Kapari, Lalaura, Maopa, and Wanigela (Waiori).
