Language and People

Kisi (ISO 639-3: kiz) is spoken by approximately 11,000 people in Tanzania. [Glottolog: kisi1243]

The Kisi people live along Lake Nyasa (Lake Malawi) in southwestern Tanzania, where their livelihoods center on fishing and farming. They are considered one of the most remote communities in East Africa. [2] A writing system for Kisi was developed as part of the Mbeya Cluster Project in preparation for Bible translation work. [2]
