Mum Language NT Portions

Mum Language NT Portions (KQANTP)

Overview

The Mum Language NT Portions contain selected New Testament books in the Mum language of Papua New Guinea, published in 2010 by Pioneer Bible Translators. Missionaries from Pioneer Bible Translators began working among the Mum people in the early 1990s, training local team members to use Paratext Bible translation software and produce back translations into Tok Pisin for consultant checking. [1] The Gospel of Mark was translated and published first, followed by drafting of Matthew, Luke, and Acts. When the missionary translators departed, the Mum community made an arduous journey to request continued help and, after being told no personnel were available, resolved to continue translation work on their own initiative. [1] Approximately 1,000 people — a quarter of the Mum language group — attended the dedication of the Gospel of Matthew. [1]
