Da’a Kaili 1998 Today”s Da’a Version (KZFLAI)
Overview
Today’s Da’a Version (“Buku Nagasa Pojanji Nabou”) is the first New Testament translation in the Da’a Kaili language, published in 1998 by Lembaga Alkitab Indonesia (LAI), the Indonesian Bible Society. [1] Da’a Kaili is one of thirteen varieties of the Kaili dialect cluster, an Austronesian language of the Celebic branch spoken in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. [2] Bible portions in Da’a Kaili were first made available in 1985, with the complete New Testament following in 1998. [3] The Kaili Unde (Da’a) people number approximately 69,000 and reside in the subdistricts surrounding the Palu River valley south of the provincial capital, Palu. [3] The population is predominantly Muslim (approximately 90%), and the translation serves a small but present Christian minority in the region. [3]
Language and People
Da’a Kaili (ISO 639-3: kzf) is spoken by approximately 3,000 people in Indonesia, Sulawesi. [Glottolog: daak1235]
Da’a is classified as a West Kaili dialect within the broader Kaili language cluster of Central Sulawesi. [2] The Kaili languages are part of the Celebic branch of the Austronesian family. The heartland of the Kaili-speaking area is the Palu River valley stretching southward from Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi Province, and extends into the mountains on both sides of the valley and along the coasts of the Makassar Strait and the Gulf of Tomini. [2]
