Kara New Testament (LEUPNG)

Overview

The Kara New Testament, titled A Turoxoian Fa’ui Sina Piran, is a translation of the New Testament into the Kara language of Papua New Guinea, completed in 1997 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] This was the first Scripture translation in the Kara language. Kara is an Oceanic language of the Lavongai-Nalik subgroup, spoken in the northwest part of New Ireland Province in the Kavieng District. [2] The language is spoken by approximately 5,000 people. [2] A grammatical description of the Kara-Lemakot dialect was produced by Perry Schlie at SIL in connection with the translation project. [3]
