The Loko 1983 Edition is the first New Testament translation in the Loko language of Sierra Leone, published by Lutheran Bible Translators (LBT). [1] The Loko people, also known as Landogo, are a Mande-speaking ethnic group concentrated in the Bombali and Port Loko districts of Sierra Leone’s Northern Province. [2] Following the New Testament’s publication, literacy programs were established to help Loko speakers engage with the translated Scriptures, including the reopening of 18 literacy classes. [1]
