Overview
The Chiquihuitlan Mazatec New Testament (Compromisu xi majo xi casahmi nina cojo xuta) is a 1991 translation published by La Liga Biblica, A.C. (now Liga Biblica Internacional) with copyright held by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] Chiquihuitlan Mazatec is an endangered Oto-Manguean language spoken in the municipality of San Juan Chiquihuitlan in the State of Oaxaca, southern Mexico, with approximately 2,500 speakers. [2] The language is part of the Mazatecan branch of the Popolocan subfamily and is notable for possessing a form of whistled speech used mainly by men and boys. [2] This New Testament represents the first Scripture translation in the Chiquihuitlan variety of Mazatec.
