The Mekeo New Testament, titled Mauni Mamaga Iifaga, was published in 1998 by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea. ^[1] The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators for the Mekeo-speaking community of the Central Province of Papua New Guinea. ^[2] It is classified as a new translation, representing the first complete New Testament in the Mekeo language. ^[3] The Mekeo people were among the earliest groups in Papua New Guinea to have sustained contact with Christian missionaries, as the Sacred Heart Mission established a presence in the Mekeo area in the late nineteenth century.

Mekeo is an Austronesian language of the Oceanic branch, spoken in the Central Province of Papua New Guinea in the lowland plains inland from the coast northwest of Port Moresby. ^[4] The language belongs to the Western Oceanic subgroup according to the classification of Malcolm Ross. ^[4] The Mekeo people are settled horticulturalists known for their elaborate ceremonial life and social organization, which has been the subject of considerable anthropological study.
