Meta New Testament (MGOWBT)
Overview
The Meta’ (Metta) New Testament was completed in 2013 and dedicated on March 1, 2014. [1] Translation work began when SIL linguists Klaus and Janice Spreda first started working with the Metta community in 1972. [1] The Spredas returned to Cameroon in 1989 specifically to help translate the New Testament. [1] In the 1990s, Metta pastors and teachers attended training courses in translation techniques, and in 2000 the Metta church community invited CABTAL (Cameroon Association for Bible Translation and Literacy) to take over management of the project. [1] The main translators were Pastor John Fokwa, a former teacher, and Senior Pastor John Atoh, with additional contributions from Pastor Moses Fondor, Pastor Peter Tende, and language assistant John Takud.
