The New Testament in Moniga is a translation of the New Testament into Makhuwa-Moniga, one of several varieties within the broader Makhuwa language complex of northern Mozambique. [1] Makhuwa is the most widely spoken indigenous language family in Mozambique, with the various Makhuwa varieties collectively spoken by millions of people across the northern provinces of Nampula, Cabo Delgado, Niassa, and northern Zambezia. [1] Makhuwa-Moniga specifically has approximately 440,000 speakers. [2] The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators. Makhuwa belongs to the P.30 Makua-Lomwe group within the Bantu branch of the Niger-Congo language family. [1]
