Miship 2000 Edition

Miship 2000 Edition (MJSWTC)

Overview

The Miship 2000 Edition is a New Testament translation in the Miship language (also known as Chip), published in 2000. Miship is an Afro-Asiatic language of the West Chadic branch spoken in Pankshin and Qua’an-Pan local government areas of Plateau State, Nigeria. [1] A 2021 SIL sociolinguistic survey found the language to be vigorous (EGIDS level 6a) with an estimated 30,000 speakers and near-complete intergenerational transmission. [1] The survey also found very high lexical similarity (99%) across Miship communities, indicating minimal dialectal variation. [1] Bible translation and language development work in Miship is conducted in partnership with the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT). [2]
