Monkole New Testament (MKLSIM)
Overview
The Monkole New Testament (Akabuu Titɔ̃i Idei Ilaaɔ) was published in 2006 by SIM International in collaboration with the Union des Eglises Evangeliques du Benin (UEEB), providing the first Scripture in the Mokole language of northern Benin. [1] The translation was part of a project that ultimately spanned approximately forty years, beginning in the early 1980s and continuing through the completion of the full Bible, which was projected for distribution in early 2022. [2] A Monkole pastor named Samuel worked on the translation project from its start and is noted as the only known Monkole pastor. [2] Because the Monkole are an oral-tradition society, the translation team tested drafts by reading samples aloud to community members. [2] The team persevered through significant personal difficulties, including accidents, illness, family deaths, and the translation consultant being diagnosed with cancer. [2]
