Mamanwa New Testament (MMNWBT)

Overview

The Mamanwa New Testament, titled Ya mga panaba na Diyos, is a translation into the Mamanwa language of the Philippines, produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators. Scripture portions were first made available in 1966-1967, and the complete New Testament was published in 1982. ^[1] The Mamanwa are one of the Negrito peoples of the Philippines, considered to be among the earliest inhabitants of the archipelago. ^[2] Their name derives from man (“first”) and banwa (“forest”), meaning “first forest dwellers.” ^[2] They live primarily in the Lake Mainit area of northeastern Mindanao, in Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Norte provinces. ^[1] SIL conducted linguistic documentation of the language, including a Mamanwa grammar published in 1976. ^[2]
