Misima-Paneati Bible (MPXPNG)
Overview
The New Testament and portions of the Old Testament in the Misima-Panaeati language of Papua New Guinea, with an initial copyright date of 1947 and subsequent revisions in 1997, 2011, 2016, and 2018. [1] Misima-Panaeati is spoken on Misima Island (formerly St. Aignan) and surrounding islands in the Louisiade Archipelago, Milne Bay Province. [2] The earliest translation work dates to the mid-twentieth century, when Methodist missionaries were active in the region; the Methodists were among the first Protestant missions in Papua, later merging into the United Church in Papua New Guinea in 1968. [3] The modern digital edition, titled Buki Bwabwalena, was prepared by Wycliffe Bible Translators and is distributed under a Creative Commons license. [1] The translation includes the complete New Testament alongside portions of six Old Testament books, serving approximately 20,000 Misima-Panaeati speakers. [1]
