Overview

The Maranao Bible (2013 edition) is a complete Bible translation in the Maranao language. The Maranao (“people of the lake”) are a predominantly Muslim people of approximately 1.8 million, living primarily in Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte provinces on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. [1] The Maranao New Testament was first published in 1981, with the complete Bible following in 2013. [1] Dr. Frank Laubach began missionary work among the Maranao in 1930, developing his worldwide literacy program in the process. [2] SIL’s long-term engagement with the language is reflected in Howard P. McKaughan and Batua Al-Macaraya’s “A Maranao Dictionary” (1996). [3]
