Agusan Manobo New Testament (OT Portions) (MSMWPS)

Overview

The Agusan Manobo New Testament, titled “Kasuyatan to Diyus,” was published in 1999 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. and represents the first Scripture translation into the Agusan Manobo language. ^[1] The Agusan Manobo are an indigenous people of Mindanao, Philippines, whose name derives from the Hispanic term “mansuba” meaning “river people,” reflecting their historical settlement along the Agusan River. ^[2] As Christian settlers from other Philippine islands came to dominate the flatlands of the Agusan Valley, the Manobo communities moved into the mountainous interior of Agusan del Sur province. ^[2] This translation provides the New Testament along with Old Testament portions (Genesis) in the language of a community whose traditional religious beliefs center on numerous unseen spirits. ^[3]
