The Bible in Lumasaaba (MYXBSU)

Overview

The Bible in Lumasaaba is a New Testament translation for the Bagisu (Bamasaba) people of the Mount Elgon region in eastern Uganda, published in 2008 by the Bible Society of Uganda. Lumasaaba (also known as Lugisu or Masaaba) is spoken by over 1.6 million people across the districts of Mbale, Bududa, Manafwa, Bulambuli, and surrounding areas. [1] The first Lumasaaba New Testament was launched in 1977. A revision of that New Testament began in 2003 and was relaunched in 2011, while translation of the Old Testament started in 2008 and was completed in 2016. [1] The complete Lumasaaba Bible was launched on December 23, 2016, in Mbale town, making it one of 15 complete Bibles translated into local Ugandan languages by the Bible Society of Uganda. [1] [2] A significant challenge in the translation process was the existence of many Lumasaaba dialects, which complicated revision sessions as translators each advocated for their own dialect. [1]
