Bible Portions in Yalë

Bible Portions in Yalë (NCEWBT)

Overview

Bible Portions in Yale, titled Ehwati Gali, were published in 2022 by Wycliffe Bible Translators and contain seven books of Scripture in the Yale language of Papua New Guinea. [1] The Yale language, also known as Nagatman or Nagatiman, is spoken in the Green River Rural Local-Level Government area of Sandaun Province in northwestern Papua New Guinea. [2] With approximately 600 speakers, Yale is a small language community, and this translation represents a significant achievement in providing Scripture access to this remote population.

Language and People

Yale (ISO 639-3: nce) is spoken by approximately 600 people in the Nagatiman and surrounding villages of the Green River Rural LLG in Sandaun Province. [2] Papua New Guinea, Map 3. [Glottolog: yale1246]

Papua New Guinea has one of the highest concentrations of linguistic diversity in the world, with over 800 languages. Many of these, like Yale, have very small speaker populations in remote, difficult-to-access areas, making Bible translation work both challenging and significant for the communities served. [3]
