Takuu New Testament (NHOTCT)
Overview
The Takuu New Testament was dedicated in December 2010, translated by Rev. Abraham Vaelani and Tom Puaria with training and support from SIL representatives Sue Andersen and Gail Pressnall. [1] Translation work began in November 1986 when local chiefs told the linguists: “You put the Scriptures into our language and we will read it for ourselves and then make up our own minds.” [1] Paulus Kieviet served as translation consultant. [1] Takuu (commonly known as Mortlock) is a Polynesian outlier atoll northeast of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. Old Testament work has continued, with Sharon Puaria translating Genesis. [1]
