Overview

The Nande 1980 Edition (Amasako Aboytrtre wa Nyamuhanga Awakahulawa mo Biblia) is a New Testament translation in the Nande language, published in 1980. [1] Nande, also known as Kinande or Yira, is a Bantu language spoken by the Nande (Bayira) people of northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo. [2] The translation was produced through the collaboration of the Bible Society of Uganda and the Bible Society of the Democratic Republic of Congo. [1] The Nande and the closely related Konjo (Bakonzo) people of Uganda are considered a single ethnic group, known collectively as the Yira (Bayira), separated by the international border along the Rwenzori Mountains. Language and People

Nande (ISO 639-3: nnb), also known as Kinande, Ndande, or Yira, is a Bantu language spoken by approximately 903,000 people in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in the southeast of Ituri province and in the Beni and Lubero territories of North Kivu province. [2] The language has nine recognized dialects: Nande, Kumbule, Mate, Tangi, Sanza, Shu, Ekisongoora, Swaga, and Yira. [2] It is written in the Latin alphabet and shares approximately 77% lexical similarity with the closely related Konjo language spoken across the border in Uganda. [3] [Glottolog: nand1264]
