Overview

The Namiae New Testament, titled “Godon Vuak Ma Ijin,” is the first New Testament translation in the Namiae language of Papua New Guinea, published in 2004 by Wycliffe Bible Translators [1]. Namiae (also known as Namiai) is a Koiarian language within the Trans-New Guinea family, spoken in Oro Province in the villages of Kokoro, Kuae, Sorefuna, Tahama, and Ubuvara in the Afore Rural LLG area [2]. The language has an estimated 2,300 speakers, and it is used as a first language by all members of the ethnic community [3]. Bible portions in Namiae were first produced between 1973 and 2004, with the complete New Testament following in 2004 [3].
