Odual New Testmament

Odual New Testmament (ODUWBT)

Overview

The Odual New Testament, titled “Oobi Adom Aghudum” in the vernacular, is a 2018 translation of the New Testament into the Odual language of southern Nigeria [1]. Odual is a Central Delta language spoken by the Odual community in the Abua-Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State and parts of Ogbia LGA in Bayelsa State [2]. The language is closely related to neighboring Central Delta languages such as Abuan, Obulom, and Ogbia, though it remains one of the less-documented languages of the Niger Delta region, with major linguistic studies limited to Comson (1987), Madumere (2006), and Kari (2009) [2]. The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators and represents a significant milestone in Scripture access for the Odual-speaking community, which numbers approximately 30,000 people [3].
