Mochi 1998 Edition

Mochi 1998 Edition (OLDBST)

Overview

The Mochi 1998 Edition is a New Testament translation in Kimochi, one of the dialects of the Central Kilimanjaro (Chaga) language cluster, published by the Bible Society of Tanzania. Kimochi is spoken in the Old Moshi area on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro and is considered the prestige dialect among the Chagga people. [1] The first New Testament in any Chagga dialect was a Kimochi translation completed in 1939, making it a pioneering Scripture publication for the broader Chagga community. [2] By the late twentieth century, however, that edition had become outdated and gone out of print, prompting a fresh translation effort. The revised New Testament was completed and officially launched in November 2000 by the Bible Society of Tanzania. [2]
